SOL sat down with Dutch Design Duo Sanne Schepers and Anne Bosman behind the brand Schepers Bosman.
The pair took time out of their busy schedule from their Amsterdam studio to chat to SOL about the brand’s aesthetics, wining “Les Etoiles Mercedes-Benz’ during Paris Fashion Week and what it takes to work in the fashion industry.
Schepers Bosman is an alternative luxury brand- what does Luxury mean to the brand?
Luxury is the attention for design/materials/details that goes into every garment and collection at Schepers Bosman.
What is the Brand’s Aesthetic Vision? And what is the ideal Schepers Bosman client?
The Brand’s aesthetic vision is: something familiar, turned into something new. The ideal Schepers Bosman client is someone who cares about the brand and is willing to make an effort.
What would you say are the three stylistic elements that summarize the brand on a whole?
Bright, Graphic, Detailed.
As a design-duo how do you manage to work synergistically and what do you think are one another's strengths?
You get the most honest criticism from each other without the fear of being hurt personally. Sanne is excellent at coming up with a lot of creative mess, ideas everywhere. Anne’s strength is to pick and chose the right ones.
The brand is based in Amsterdam and has a Dutch design approach- tell us a bit more about this.
In the Netherlands, we built land, where there was water. For us, that pretty much sums up the Dutch Design mentality and our approach towards fashion. Creating ‘something’ out of ‘nothing’.
What do you make of the local Dutch fashion scene?
A lot of creativity, not so much high-end business.
How do you envision the Future role of the Fashion Designer?
Someone who takes full responsibility for the business and their surroundings.
The brand is inspired by workwear and Art- are there any Artists you would like to collaborate with?
Yes! Erwin Olaf, Scheltens & Abbenes, Studio Job. Coincidentally all Dutch!
Where can one keep up with the world of Schepers Bosman
Facebook Instagram and our Website:
What have been some of the highlights so far?
Winning the ‘Les Etoiles Mercedes-Benz’ prize in Paris. But maybe even better: Real people wearing the real garments.
What was the experience like of wining ‘Les Etoiles Mercedes-Benz’ Prize last year?
Well the fact we won a French prize, during the French FashionWeek, in the French capitol by a French jury was such an honour! The prize was an international confirmation that we are on the right path. The prize money made it possible for us to create long term plans for our brand.
How do you envision the brand in five years time?
As a creative playground with its own production facilities, selling to an international group of Schepers Bosman collectors and stores.
Finally Three words of advice to young designers out there.
